[demo lesson] A fun way to include an absent student in your English board games

Para português, clique aqui.

This is a demo from a controlled practice stage of a lesson about telling time in English. What do I like about it?

It's a fun task adapted from a PDF, which I have turned into an interactive game and had an absent student do what I have now decided to call delayed participation:

Here’s the step-by step:

  1. transform your into a picture then the picture into a board game on your online board. Add pictures of everyone for their pin. Turn on recording. Roll the dice/flip the coin for the missing student. Have them watch the recorded lesson and provide answers to the questions. Thank technology for allowing you to be omnipresent in your students’ lives

. Here's a more detailed explanation:

And here's the pdf (which I have cut in half to better fit the eboard):

Pedagogical tips: this is a controlled practical activity. At this stage of the class, we have already covered the rules and vocabulary, and now I am creating a context in which she uses the concepts in an activity with times of my choice. At this stage, you should never give the answer before the student tries, and even if they make a mistake, allow them to try again and realize where the error is independently. It is difficult not to answer and not at all intuitive, but it makes all the difference and oftentimes the student knows the answer and just needs a little more time and patience than you to find it =)
